Sautéed Apples with Cinnamon Whipped Cream and Granola

Here in Florida, fall is slower to arrive than in more northern states. We bake in the intensely humid heat of September and long for the first whiff of cool air to arrive. That anticipation for fall can come in the form of making all kinds of fall recipes before fall truly arrives. I reach for the apples and pumpkins while the temperature still reaches the 90s.

For today’s recipes, I’ve taken my love of apple crumble and made a simplified version that uses sautéed apples with a ready made granola topping. It’s garnished with a dollop of cinnamon whipped cream, just to make it perfect.

I used the newest Bear Naked Granola flavor, Sea Salt Caramel Apple Granola, for this recipe. It’s an excellent choice for fall, with its sweet and salty flavor profile. Plus, it’s filled with dried apples and pieces of toffee-like caramel, giving it a wonderful range of different textures. Perfect for pairing with sautéed apples.

I picked up my Bear Naked Sea Salt Caramel Apple Granola at BJ’s Wholesale Club. You can find it on the cereal aisle.

There are also several coupon deals you can redeem for this granola. Check out the Ibotta app to save $2 on a box of Bear Naked Sea Salt Caramel Apple Granola.

You can also save an extra $2 by picking up another coupon at the front of the store at BJ’s. That’s a total of $4 off!

Ingredients

  • 2medium applescored and sliced, I prefer Honeycrisp or Pink Lady / Cripps Pink
  • 1tablespoonunsalted butter
  • 1tablespoonlemon juice
  • 1teaspoonbrown sugar
  • 1/2cupheavy whipping cream
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 1cupgranola

Instructions

  1. Place a mixing bowl and whisk in the freezer to chill.

  2. Heat a nonstick skillet on medium low. Drop in the butter and let it melt and bubble gently. If it sizzles audibly, the skillet is too hot.

  3. Add the apple slices and toss to coat. Sprinkle on the brown sugar and toss again. Let cook, stirring and turning the slices occasionally, for about 10 to 15 minutes. Apples are done when they are easily pierced by a fork. Remove the skillet from heat and set aside.

  4. Remove the chilled bowl and whisk. Add the whipped cream and whisk briskly until soft peaks are formed. Add the cinnamon and keep whisking until cinnamon is completely incorporated.

  5. Divide the apple slices between 4 serving dishes. Sprinkle with an equal amount of granola, then top with a dollop of cinnamon whipped cream. Serve immediately.

I hear ya on the hot Fall weather – it’s the same story here in Phoenix. I’m already trying to pretend it’s chilly outside, but it’d sure be a lot easier if I had one of these yummy apple granola cups! They look amazing!

I completely agree about fall arriving later than most. I’m still holding out on the pumpkin though but I’m starting to use apples. This looks great! I love cinnamon whipped cream. I usually use coconut milk instead of whipping cream but nonetheless it’s delicious!
