Ham & Cheese Overnight Breakfast Lasagna Recipe (1)

You guys kind of love, love, love your overnight breakfasts I’ve come to find out! They are always some of the most popular recipes around these parts and I’ve brought you another one! Hip, Hip, Hooray! Some of your favorites have beenBiscuits and Gravy Overnight Breakfast Casserole, Breakfast Enchiladas, Ham and Cheese Egg Muffins,The BEST Tater Tot Breakfast Casserole andOvernight French Toast Casserole!

I mean I can totally understand why you are so in love with them. This is because I am too! Most of us are not ones to greet the mornings full of life and energy just waiting to make our families a homemade breakfast whether it’s a weekend morning or a weekday morning. Most of us would rather be laying around in bed as long as possible. Only getting out of bed because the kids are up and you have no other choice, you are going to be late for work or because you just have too. It’s ok to admit this. No judgement here!

This is why I like overnight breakfast recipes so much. They are awesomesauce! I would rather make it the night before and then lounge around with the kids, sipping my coffee while it bakes in the morning. I mean who wouldn’t?

I’m going to admit when I started creating this recipe I was a little doubtful that it was going to be a success. I couldn’t quit wrap my head around the lasagna noodles for breakfast. Pasta for breakfast? I mean I love pasta and everything but I was still doubtful. I’ve seen other breakfast lasagna recipes so apparently people ate them, but a lot of them involved hard boiled eggs and I’m not a big hard boiled egg fan so I decided to venture out on my own.

And then I made this epic recipe. I say epic because I really just wanted to sit down with the whole pan and stuff myself. I mean I did stuff myself, but not with the whole pan. I do have a tiny bit of self restraint. Tiny. Very Tiny. So, this recipe, it has tons and tons of bacon flavor because you cook the onions in the bacon grease and then you make the cheese sauce in the same skillet. That means this lasagna is loaded with bacon flavors and that’s what left me licking my lips! Plus you add a ton of cheese and pasta and I mean of course it’s awesome!

Hi Julie – love your recipes. I make something similar but I make scrambled egg “noodles”. I line a rimmed cookie sheet with parchment paper that comes up the sides as well…spray parchment with non-stick spray and then pour your favorite scrambled egg mixture onto parchment paper. Bake in 350 degree oven. Mine take about 15 minutes but it depends on how thick your mixture is. I then cut them using a pizza cutter into “noodles”. I layer mine with sausage ,pre-browned hash browns and cheese. My sauce layer is a white milk gravy. The egg noodles hold up well and everything keeps its shape pretty good when cut and served. Keep the great recipes coming.

FAQs

Is lasagna better overnight? ›

A very good plan is cooking these dishes in advance, at least a few hours, and serve then at room temp or after reheating in the oven. Does lasagna taste better right after it's made, or hours later? I find lasagna always tastes better when it's reheated the day after it's made. Same with spaghetti sauce.

Does an egg go in the cheese mixture for lasagna? ›

Lasagna noodles: Use store-bought or homemade lasagna noodles. Cheeses: Parmesan, mozzarella, and ricotta cheese make this lasagna extra decadent. Egg: An egg helps bind the ricotta so it doesn't ooze out of the lasagna when you cut into it.

Can you assemble lasagna the night before? ›

Lasagna is the kind of food that can keep a family fed for many nights in a row, happily. But it has other perks, too: namely, that you can prepare the whole thing in advance, and store it in the fridge overnight—ready to pop in the oven an hour or so before dinner (just before the kids start to whine).

What goes down first when making lasagna? ›

Start by spreading a layer of your tomato-based sauce (either a plain tomato sauce or your pre-made ragù) on the bottom of your dish. Next, add a single layer of pasta sheets. Then, add a layer of white sauce, followed by another single layer of pasta sheets.

Can you leave cooked lasagna in oven overnight? ›

Nope. Food should be properly stored within 2 hours. The danger zone, in which bacteria multiplies most quickly is at a temerature between 40–140 degrees.

Can you eat lasagna left in the oven overnight? ›

In a single word NO. Lasagna has cheese, meat and pasta, all of them that don't hold up well by leaving them without refrigeration.

What happens if you forget an egg in ricotta for lasagna? ›

Why should we mix ricotta cheese with egg when making a lasagna? People use egg to make the ricotta firm and bind it, but if you drain the liquid out of your ricotta, you don't need egg. It will be firm enough.

Do you need to mix egg and ricotta for lasagna? ›

Eggs help prevent the ricotta from drying out and serve to bind the ricotta so it doesn't become runny. One or more eggs are recommended whether you add the other ingredients mentioned here or not.

How many eggs add to ricotta? ›

Ricotta Scrambled Eggs
  1. 1oz. ( or 2 Tbsp.) Galbani® Ricotta.
  2. 4 eggs.
  3. 1 Tbsp. butter.
  4. 1/4 cup cheddar cheese, grated.
  5. 2 Tbsp. fresh chives.

What not to do when making lasagna? ›

Too much between one layer and another will keep you from ever getting a perfect slice. Too little and all you'll taste is pasta. Do not put large pieces of vegetables or meat in lasagna for the same reason as above. To get a perfect lasagna, the filling should be finely sliced or even creamy.

How long can assembled lasagna sit before baking? ›

You can prepare lasagna up to 24 hours before baking it.

How long can you keep an unbaked lasagna in the fridge before cooking? ›

You can keep a built lasagna in the fridge for 4 days, possibly even 5 days, before cooking it. You could even make it and then freeze it for a few months. Do note, what ever you do, that the lasagna will start to dry out after a while and the uncooked pasta sheets will start to absorb flavors and liquid.

How many layers should a lasagna have? ›

Betony Kitchen says you could make lasagna with as little as two layers for a quick lasagna that doesn't take long to bake. Many, however, would consider this skimping. Most recipes you'll find for lasagna call for a minimum of three layers, which seems to be the universal standard.

What is the correct order to layer lasagna? ›

Begin Layering

After the initial sauce layer, add a layer of pasta sheets, ricotta mixture (or bechamel), sauce, and cheese. Then repeat the layers. Top the last layer of your lasagna with sauce and cheese. You can also alternate layers of sauce and ricotta cheese.

Should the top layer of lasagna be noodles or sauce? ›

There's a lot of discussion around this topic in the lasagna recipe world, but generally most lasagna recipes start with a layer of red sauce, followed by a layer of white sauce, followed by a layer of pasta and cheese. Then you continue with this layering until you have completely filled your tray.

Is it better to refrigerate lasagna before baking? ›

If you just need to make it a day ahead, you could refrigerate it before baking it. But you need to make sure it cools quickly when you refrigerate. So if it has a cooked meat sauce, you'd need to make that and cool it before assembling the lasagna and refrigerating. The assembled dish will chill more quickly that way.

How long should lasagna sit before eating? ›

After removing the lasagna from the oven, let it sit for at least 10 minutes to allow the sauce and cheese to settle and cool. This time helps the lasagna slice better for better serving sizes.

How long should lasagna sit before cooking? ›

For cooking patience is an excellent ally, so when you have finished composing your lasagna, let it rest for about 40 minutes before baking it; in this way the pasta will absorb all the flavors of the condiment and the cooking will be more hom*ogeneous and the taste richer.

Is it better to store lasagna cooked or uncooked? ›

Is it better to freeze lasagna cooked or uncooked? To be succinct, freeze it uncooked. So much of this freezer lasagna is already cooked, that if you were to fully cook it, freeze it, and then cook it again to reheat, the end result would be very mushy.
